Can't Have One Without The Other

This was done for the livejournal fest RS Games (rs-games.livejournal.com). My Prompt was the quote, "A journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you control it." ~ John Steinbeck

This is Remus and Sirius on a road trip together. My interpretation on how this piece fits with my prompt is this:


"A journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you control it."



My story is as follows: Remus insisted on driving, as he needs to be in control - but he didn't take into account how this, then, put Sirius in charge of the map. They get lost, so they pull over to figure out where they are.

First image: Sirius gets frustrated and angry with himself for getting them lost - because he, as it turns out, was also trying to control the circumstances & outcomes. However, Remus has become highly amused by all this. For he has now realised that it would have been and always will be imposible to control the entire situation, because if Sirius were driving, Remus would've had to read the map, and therefore vice versa. Quite like the song that inspired my title–


Love and marriage, love and marriage
Go together like a horse and carriage.
This I tell you brother;
You can't have one without the other.




Second image: Remus learns to just live in the moment and let go of his false impression of ever having been able to take control. And right now, he wants to kiss Sirius.


So, I guess this fits my prompt as not only a literal journey, but also a few other ways one can learn to live by this philosphy. \o/
